Captain Michael V. McLaine
CAPT McLaine, a native of Springfield, VA, graduated from the University of Illinois in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. He is a distinguished graduate of the Naval War College with a Master’s in National Security Studies and is a Gravely Group fellow. Sea tours include division officer assignments aboard the USS PITTSBURGH (SSN 720), Operations Officer aboard the USS OHIO (SSGN 726) (BLUE), Executive Officer aboard the USS HARTFORD (SSN 768), and the Commanding Officer of the USS PROVIDENCE (SSN 719). Ashore, CAPT McLaine served on the staff at NAVAL FORCES EUROPE-SIXTH FLEET, COMSUBDEVRON TWELVE’s Tactical Analysis Group, and Commander, Undersea Warfighting Development Center. He also served as Director, Commander’s Action Group for Commander, Submarine Force Atlantic. He currently serves as the Chief of Staff for Commander, Submarine Group TWO. During his time at sea he has participated in seven overseas deployments, two science expeditions to the North Pole, and combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The crews he served with have been recognized for their contributions to the nation’s defense with multiple unit awards and two Battle “E”s. He is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
