A native of Mesa, Arizona, CAPT Lembo graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and commissioned in the Navy through the Navy ROTC program in 1999.
His career as a nuclear submarine officer included assignments as a division officer on USS PITTSBURGH (SSN 720) where he completed one deployment to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; two strategic deterrent patrols as the Strategic Weapons Officer onboard USS MAINE (SSBN 741)(BLUE), and three strategic deterrent patrols as Executive Officer on USS HENRY M. JACKSON (SSBN 730) (BLUE). He commanded USS NEBRASKA (SSBN 739) (BLUE) where he completed three strategic deterrent patrols.
Ashore he was assigned to COMSUBPAC where he served as a Submarine Watch Officer and the Assistant Plans and Policy officer. During this time, he volunteered for a one-year Individual Augmentation assignment to Afghanistan where he served as a Civil Affairs (CA) team leader for the 405th CA Battalion in support of the 10th Mountain Division. For his post department head shore assignment, he served as the CTF 144 SSBN Force Targeting Officer/COMSUBLANT Tactical Readiness Evaluation Team Strategic Department Head. Following his Executive Officer tour, he attended the Defense Language Institute-Foreign Language Center (DLI-FLC), located at the Presidio of Monterey in Monterey, CA to prepare for his assignment as a professional exchange program to Israel. At DLI-FLC, he graduated with honors from the Hebrew language basic course and received an associate’s degree in Hebrew. Following completion of DLI-FLC he attended and graduated from the Israeli National Defense College (MABAL) and received a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Haifa in Haifa, Israel. Following command, he served as the Senior Member of the COMSUBLANT Combat Readiness Evaluation Team, the COMSUBLANT Force Navigator, and also as the SUBLANT Deputy for Safety. His current assignment is as Chief of Staff for CSG2.
CAPT Lembo’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit with star, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars, and various unit and campaign awards.
