Captain David B. Burke

A native of Midlothian, Illinois, Captain Burke earned his commission and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the United States Naval Academy in 2003. In 2016, Captain Burke completed an Executive Master of Business Administration degree through the Naval Postgraduate School.
His sea duty assignments include Division Officer onboard USS NEVADA (SSBN 733)(BLUE) for four strategic deterrent patrols; Navigator and Operations Officer onboard USS SEAWOLF (SSN 21); and Executive Officer onboard USS GEORGIA (SSGN 729)(BLUE) for three deployments to the FIFTH and SIXTH Fleet areas of responsibility. He commanded USS RHODE ISLAND (SSBN 740)(GOLD), completing three strategic deterrent patrols including one forward to the SIXTH Fleet area of responsibility. While in command of RHODE ISLAND, the ship earned the 2022 Commander, Submarine Squadron 20 Battle Efficiency “E” and the U.S. Strategic Command Omaha Trophy. Captain Burke was awarded the 2023 Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale award for his inspirational leadership while in command of USS RHODE ISLAND. Captain Burke also briefly commanded USS WYOMING (SSBN 742)(BLUE).
His shore assignments include Flag Aide to Commander, Navy Region Northwest; Undersea Warfare Requirements Officer in the Warfare Requirements, Resources, and Force Structure Directorate (N8) at Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet; Flag Secretary to Commander, Navy Region Southeast; and Submarine Squadron 20 Deputy Commander. Captain Burke currently serves as the Submarine Group 10 Chief of Staff.
Captain Burke is authorized to wear the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other unit and personal awards.
