Mr. Dennis Boyer
Mr. Dennis Boyer serves as the Deputy Commander, Undersea Warfighting Development Center (UWDC) where he supports the UWDC Commander as the principal advisor on current and future undersea warfare (USW). His responsibilities include rapid delivery of new USW technologies and tactical guidance to fleet operators and consulting with various senior DoD leaders and private research organizations on all aspects of USW.
From May 2020 to July 2024, Mr. Boyer served as the Senior Submarine Command Tactical Advisor at Naval Submarine School New London providing individual instruction, team coaching, and leadership mentoring in all aspects of the tactical employment of U.S. submarines.
Enlisting in June 1984, Mr. Boyer served on active duty until his retirement as a Navy Captain in December 2019. Mr. Boyer served as Commanding Officer at sea on USS Miami (SSN 755) from July 2008 to September 2010 and USS Columbia (SSN 771) from May to October 2012. Ashore Mr. Boyer commanded Naval Station Newport from September 2014 to August 2017. Additional at-sea assignments include: USS Honolulu (SSN 718), USS Billfish (SSN 676), staff of Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group TWELVE deployed in 2001 on USS Enterprise (CVN 65) in support of Operation Southern Watch and Operation Enduring Freedom, and USS Salt Lake City (SSN 716). His assignments ashore include: Tactical Analysis Group on the staff of Commander, Submarine Development Squadron TWELVE; Deputy Commander for Training on the staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron SEVEN; and on the staff of Director, Operational Test and Evaluation. His active-duty service ended with the completion of his assignment as the Director for Training, Tactical Development, Doctrine, and Knowledge Management on the staff of Commander Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Mr. Boyer was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in July 2024. He earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from Auburn University in 1989, a Master of Education from the University of Virginia in 1997, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2006.
